MMla Cascata delle Marmore, la più alta d'Europa, è un'opera artificiale costruita dai Romani. Nel 271 a.C. il console Manlio Curio Dentato ordinò lo scavo di un canale (Cavo Curiano), per bonificare i terreni impaludati della pianura reatina dovuto alle acque del fiume Velino. Le acque stagnanti del fiume Velino nella valle reatina venivano convogliante tamite il canale fino alla rupe di Marmore, da dove precipitavano nel sottostante alveo del fiume Nera, con un salto complessivo di 165 metri.

The Fall Of Marmore, one the highest of Europe, is an artificial work built by Romans. In 271 a.C. the consul Manlio Curium Dentato ordered the excavation of a channel (Cavo Curiano), to reclaim the the swamps grounds of the reatina plain due to the river waters Velino. The stagnant waters, of the river Velino, in the reatina valley were coming directing with the channel up to the Marmore rock, from where they fall in the underlying river bed of the Nera river, with a 165 meter total jump.
