Città dai tratti mediterranei, Budva nasce su un isolotto, come una cittadella fortificata. La vecchia città di Budua (in montenegrino e serbo Budva/Будва, in greco antico Βούδουα/ Boúdoua) Montenegro è su una piccola isola , del mare Adriatico, collegata alla terra da un striscia di sabbia si è trasformata in una penisola. È circondata da mura e bastioni, costruiti nel XV secolo e da un sistema di fortificazione medievale con porte e torri di difesa. La città all'interno delle mura è costituita da una combinazione di strade strette e piccole piazze. La leggenda dice che Budva fu fondata da Cadmo ( insieme alla moglie Armonia), figlio del re Fenice Agenore, espulso da Tebe arrivò in questa area su un carro e qui fondò la città di Budva. Ma la mitologia dice che Cadmo fondò Tebe dove visse con la moglie Armonia, figlia di Afrodite e Ares. Cadmo ed Armonia vennero a cercare la principessa fenicia Europa, rapita da Zeus da queste parti. La città viene nominata per la prima volta nel V secolo come insediamento illirico che successivamente divenne la colonia greca e poi romana. Le strette e tortuose vie, le piazzette, le chiese e le fortezze offrono un ambiente suggestivo. Vicino alla Cittadella può trovare numerose chiese, come la Chiesa di Santa Maria in Punta, che è uno dei più antichi edifici preromani del Montenegro. La chiesa è attualmente utilizzata per mostre d’arte e concerti di musica classica.
Accanto alla Chiesa di Santa Maria in Punta è la Chiesa della Santissima Trinità. Questa chiesa ortodossa fu terminata nel 1804 e di fronte ad essa è possibile vedere la tomba di un famoso scrittore e politico Stjepan Mitrov Ljubisa. La bellissima iconostasi di questa chiesa risale al XIX secolo.

A city with Mediterranean features, Budva was born on an islet, like a fortified citadel. The old city of Budva (in Montenegrin and Serbian Budva / Будва, in ancient Greek Βούδουα / Boúdoua) Montenegro is on a small island in the Adriatic Sea, connected to the land by a strip of sand that has turned into a peninsula. It is surrounded by walls and ramparts, built in the 15th century and by a medieval fortification system with defense gates and towers. The city within the walls is made up of a combination of narrow streets and small squares. The legend says that Budva was founded by Cadmus (together with his wife Harmony), son of King Phoenix Agenore, expelled from Thebes and arrived in this area on a chariot and here he founded the city of Budva. But mythology says that Cadmus founded Thebes where he lived with his wife Harmony, daughter of Aphrodite and Ares. Cadmus and Harmony came to look for the Phoenician princess Europa, kidnapped by Zeus in these parts. The city was mentioned for the first time in the 5th century as an Illyrian settlement which later became the Greek and then Roman colony. The narrow and winding streets, the squares, the churches and the fortresses offer a suggestive environment. Near the Citadel you can find numerous churches, such as the Church of Santa Maria in Punta, which is one of the oldest pre-Roman buildings in Montenegro. The church is currently used for art exhibitions and classical music concerts.
Next to the Church of Santa Maria in Punta is the Church of the Holy Trinity. This Orthodox church was finished in 1804 and in front of it you can see the tomb of a famous writer and politician Stjepan Mitrov Ljubisa. The beautiful iconostasis of this church dates back to the 19th century.
