The "Don Guanella Centre" Mission in Nnebukwu, founded in 1992 by the Congregation of the Servants of Charity – Opera Don Guanella, was created to provide a lifeline for the disabled in the Diocese of Oweri, Imo State. It is a center that hosts 50 disabled children who reside at the Center and only periodically return to their families for short vacations. The Guanellian center offers occupational therapy in the countryside, raising pigs, cows, sheep, and fish, and producing palm oil, cassava, and local vegetables. For the youngest and most seriously ill, there is a "spacial school" with educational activities and physiotherapy. The center also provides home care for the elderly in the six villages that make up the parish of Orsu Obodo. The center visits and provides them with food and first aid for illnesses, and helps with the maintenance of their hut-like home.
